Voices of the Azure Community- Alberto Jacomuzzi, Italy

A warm welcome to Alberto Jacomuzzi Co organiser of Turin Global Azure as he joins us for ‘Voices of the Azure Community’.

We hope you enjoy this insight into the work Alberto carries out to support the Italian Azure Community.

Please tell us about your own role.

I am CEO and Founder of Welol Next, a multi awarded Italian Microsoft Partner since 2000. I am a European Entrepreneur, passionate about technology and human evolution, with experience in Collaboration, Networking, Cloud and Software Development. I am spending every working day trying to be a creative and pragmatic forward thinker, driven by the use of technology and passionate colleagues and customers.

Pease outline your involvement with the Azure Turin Meet Up Group & Global Azure Turin?

At Welol Next, we do believe in communities and networking and we would like to share our passion about Azure and technology with every developer, architect and data scientists who wants to join our group. Since 2017 Welol Next and Azure Meetup Torino organize Turin Global Azure Bootcamp (now Global Azure) a worldwide community event where more than 250 groups join talking about Azure and cloud technologies. Our Azure Meetup group is growing fast (now more than 350 people) and we do our best to meet in person every month.

What are the greatest benefits of getting involved with the Group for attendees?

Communities are a real gold mine for developers! Sharing knowledge with other IT Pro and architects helps everybody to grow every day and keep our minds open to new ideas, technologies, and insights.

In your opinion what is the most exciting thing about working with Azure?

In 2008, I was at Professional Developer Conference in LA when Microsoft first announced Azure. I remained astonished and I spent all my flight back to Europe thinking about how to drive my company to the cloud journey. The most exciting part of Azure is the continuous journey we all have to undertake to deep dive into cloud challenge.

What is your favorite Azure Product and why?

No doubt about it, I think global distributed Cosmos DB elasticity and automatic scalability are killer-features in managing mission-critical enterprise workloads.

What are the key stills required to make a great Azure Developer or Architect?

Curiosity first. Developers needs to be hungry of technologies and keep on learning every day. At Welol Next, we do encourage people to get certified on Microsoft technologies because Architects and Developers must be able to choose the right service to solve everyday problem.

What in your opinion has been the biggest advance in Azure in the past 18 months?

Azure services change continuously, and we are facing with challenges in security and networking. As company are often moving to hybrid cloud scenarios, I guess Microsoft is doing right with Azure Sentinel and Azure Arc to help IT Pro to manage cloud solutions.

What are the biggest challenges you face working with Azure?

We think complicated but we make simple solutions”: this is our mission. Cloud journey involves front-end and back-end technologies backed by components provided by Azure. Devs and architects should know what services are at their disposal and have a good understanding of the services relevant to the organization. This is no easy task since Microsoft tends to release on Azure new services every single month. Then, it’s hard to create a secure, scalable cloud-based solution without understanding networking and I think this is a big challenge for everyone.

With the Covid-19 crisis, how have the Turin Azure Group adapted to continue to provide valuable support and connections to the Azure Community?

On April 23rd, Azure Meetup Torino joined Global Azure virtual community and we’ll keep on promoting meeting virtually to support networking and knowledge sharing. I’m looking forward to join again Global Azure 2021 as in-person event.
